Week starting on 01-Apr-2018

Saturday 7th April:
Its a nice mild morning but once again rain is forecast. Were hunting pups and walking dogs already. Were still having isolated problems with the kennel sickness and were power washing kennels. Kamil is away to the dump. All mothers and pups are doing fantastic so the day has gotten off to a good start. We have Gain dog food coming so its going to be a hectic day.
A big day in the soccer if Newcastle United can beat Leicester and if other results go our way were safe for another year. To be fair a draw would be a great result.
ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAVE TWO RUNNERS TONIGHT
SWIFT BRUCE AT DONCASTER.
WHIZZY WONDER AT TOWCESTER.

Friday 6th April:
Its a wet miserable day and a long night last night as Swift Krul had her pups. 9 pups in total the sire is Farloe Blitz. The bad weather will limit what we can do. As normal there are supplies to collect. We will prepare pupping down sheds as we have more bitches to have pups at the weekend.
ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAD ONE WINNER LAST NIGHT SWIFT TORI AT MONMORE.
TONIGHT WE HAVE TWO RUNNERS.
AT CENTRAL PARK: JILLYPOPS IN THE BITCHES FINAL.
AT ROMFORD: SWIFT MILEY.

Thursday 5th April:
Its a nice morning with the sun shining and a bright blue sky. The forecast is bad for the next week or so. Our kennel sickness is getting better as were down to one block that not right. Were making boxes and beds for mothers and pups. Were going to do a major tidy. Our garages and freezer also need a tidy. We wouldn't dare hunt or gallop owing to the kennel sickness.
ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAVE SIX RUNNERS TONIGHT.
AT HOVE: JOVIAL MONK AND SWIFT DIXON.
AT MONMORE: SWIFT ACAPELLA, SWIFT LUCIOUS, SWIFT DRAKE AND SWIFT TORI.

Wednesday 4th April:
The heavy rain continues. The good news is our kennel sickness is miles better today. We cant hunt or gallop until we get it completely cleared up. We have broods away to Michael Dunnes for testing. As normal there are loads of supplies to collect. We have our garage and fridge to tidy so it will be a busy day.
Sunderland Football club who are great rivals to Newcastle United look destined for division 1 football after Birmingham beat Bolton last night. They probably need to win a minimum of 4 out of their last 6 games to have any chance of stopping up. If Bolton, Reading and Birmingham don't get another point Sunderland need to win 3 of their last 6.
ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAD ONE WINNER LAST NIGHT RUBYS RASCAL AT SHEFFIELD.

Tuesday 3rd April:
We start the journal with the big news that I'm 61 years old today. Where the time has gone I just don't know.
Its going to be a busy day after the bank holiday. We have straw to collect, all our waste to take away, we need food for pups, Gain dog food is coming, paperwork has to be done, we need veg and a trip to the vets. If everything gets done the days will have gone well.
ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAVE NINE RUNNERS TONIGHT.
AT SHEFFIELD: SWIFT GABE, CONEY SABELLA, SWIFT ASPEN, RUBYS RASCAL, CINCINNATI, NOAHS REACTION AND SWIFT BOSCH.
AT POOLE: OH YESYESYES AND OH NONONO.

Monday 2nd April:
Its 23 years today since I moved into Lughill Kennels. I remember it just like yesterday. I came with a handful of dogs and had ideas on breeding, rearing and schooling. Thankfully it worked. By 2pm on my first day here I said to myself "What am I doing?". It took me the first 6 months to do the first stage of the redevelopment of the property. I couldn't believe how slow, how laid back and how hard it was to get builders. My first builder was a walking disaster. He definitely had a team of alcoholics working for him. Every little thing was a battle to get done. Like a fool I gave him half the money up front to do the job. We got there in the end. Over the last 23 years there has been some great laughs telling stories about the episodes with the builder.
I took Lady Guest to get mated to Frightful Flash on my first Thursday here and never in my wildest dreams did I expect two and a half years later to be in Shelbourne Park watching one of the offspring win the Irish Derby Toms The Best (The only dog to win both the Irish and English Derby). We breed, reared and schooled him ourselves at Lughill Kennels. There were also a couple of other great litters to get us started. There has been loads of success but I think the most successful thing we have done from day one is never putting a healthy dog to sleep.
It all couldn't have been done without good staff and good customers. I hope I'm here another 23 years doing the same. Thanks to you all.
ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK HAVE EIGHT RUNNERS TONIGHT.
AT PELAW GRANGE: BRAMBLE DECLAN.
AT NOTTINGHAM: BRAMBLE RAFA, HAGGSWOOD RIVER, COLLSWOOD HAWK, SWIFT COBRA, BRAMBLE MILBURN, WOKEEN AND BRAMBLE ALICJA.

Sunday 1st April:
First of all the good news Newcastle United won and all other results went right for them. If Arsenal beat Stoke it will have been some weekend soccer wise. I think we will probably survive with 35 points. We definitely will with 38 so were one win away from total safety. We have a tough run in but we have West Brom at home so that will be the crucial 3 points we need.
Now the bad news. I went to watch the Newcastle game in the pub and Padgie came to collect us and drove straight into a parked car and just about wrote it off. If anybody thinks I'm buying news vans to get destroyed like these ones, it ain't going to happen. One of the broods is having a litter of pups all born dead which I don't think has ever happened to us in our 23 years at Lughill Kennels. Breeding greyhounds gives plenty of highs but definitely more lows. The mother will be alright after this.
Today at the kennels were going to hunt a few pups as its not a bad morning.
ON THE OPEN RACE SCENE IN THE UK WE HAVE ONE RUNNER TONIGHT AT HENLOW SWIFT CASEY.
